Not crabgrass???

last modified: 9 years ago

So I used drive xlr8 to spray on what I thought was crabgrass and it's been two days and I have seen no results what so ever. I read the label and mixed the correct amount along with the seed oil and I even used tracker dye to verify I didn't miss any spots. Can anybody tell me if this is crabgrass and if not what might it be? The reason for me thinking it's crabgrass is because it died out in the fall and has popped back up this spring. As you can tell my lawn is common bermuda mixed with whatever this stuff might be lol. I live in Bakersfield Ca where temperatures are ranging from highs of 80-100*. Any responses are very much appreciated!

Oh and whatever it is, when my dog pees on it he kills it and the bermuda comes back strong. I'm thinking I should follow the dog around and catch his droppings maybe organic is the way to go ;)

2 days may be a bit optimistic, wait it out a week before spraying again. I agree crabgrass may not be the correct ID there...

Thanks reeljake I'll wait it out and see what happens! I'm very impatient. It's just starting to take over a huge area compared to last year. Last year I sprayed weed b gone for crabgrass on it and had next to no results as well. I'm a new home owner and have barely been here a year. I'm trying to learn about lawns and would like to get comfortable about applying pre emergents early spring so I don't have to worry too much about these issues. I know there's liquid pre emergents but I'm not to comfortable using a sprayer over the whole lawn at the correct rate so I would much rather use a granular type product is there any you can recommend to me?

Doveweed maybe? If so I think I rememeber the lawn care nut using sulfentrazone on it to kill it.

J4 I googled some pictures of doveweed and I think you might be correct the only thing is I have never seen any purple flowers come up, but that might be because I mow short and often. I'm gonna see if I can pull up one of the lawn care nuts videos on you tube to see how he attacked it. I enjoy watching his channel haha thanks for your help!

The lawn care nut is now getting paid to promote Milorganite on his youtube videos #notmyfertilizer #resist

Haha alright by the way I seeded Rivera bermuda in my front lawn and I have some decent germination but some spots don't seem to be growing like others. I applied a starter fert when I first seeded 3 weeks ago, should I now apply a fert that is high in N?

I had a pretty significant crabgrass problem last year. Used the Ortho Crabgrass concentrate(2-4d and quionclorac I believe). It worked very well but definitely took about 1 week to start seeing any results. 2+ weeks for it to run its course.

Here's a better picture of it growing in my driveway, this stuff seems to spread even more vigorously than bermuda

That is a different plant than the one you originally posted & that one looks much more like crabgrass to my eye. There are many types of crabgrass, so it could be any member of the family but they're all better dead
