Salad greens sound like the only thing that might suffer a bit from scorching sun/heat. Although I never grew them much I so I could be wrong. When I used to have an actual veg. garden I planted the tomatoes on the north side just as you are thinking of doing. Now I plant a tomato or two in the flower garden and grow most herbs .. mainly Basil's and dwarf dill in pots which get full sun from about late morning to early evening.
