That's a difficult call for someone else's home and lifestyle. At first I thought no, but then wondered how hard is it to light that part of the room with those tall ceilings with just lamps? It might be nice to have some on dimmers, if you ever think you'd want or need them. You could also think about some eyeball spots shining on the area above the mantel, if you intend for art or decor there (not for a tv tho').
