How hard are these to grow from seed? I bought a plant this year, which I can't decide where to put. Do they cross and change colors? I think columbines are beautiful, but I know nothing about them.

I don't have any problem starting from seed. I winter sowed some and also just scattered some seed and marked them. In Colo. I did have them change colors. they do take up a lot of room but I cut them back when they are done blooming. Don't know if you are supposed to or not but they always come back. Good luck. Let me know if you want seeds. They do not bloom the first yr.

Planted some last year that hung around all winter, then just finished blooming.

I'm going to hold off. I need more beds. There are plans, but I have learned to wait till it actually happens. ;) they are beautiful though.

Wow the black barlow looks cool! I just sowed some McKana Giants (Aquilegia hybridd) Columbine. :) Wish I have more space to grow some of yours.
