TVs above fireplaces are always too high, IMHO. I don't like them at all - ever. The TV should be at head/eye height when you are sitting down. No over the fireplace TV can be mounted at that height (unless you have one of those modern horizontal gas fireplaces, perhaps!) Anyway - there are fire codes and requirements for the distance between the top of the fireplace and the bottom of the mantle. In all likelihood, you can't move it down, and nor should you. However, the mantle you've got would look a whole lot better if it was switched out for something more substantial, I think - but we'd need to see what the rest of the room looks like, and a shot showing the fireplace in the context of that entire wall, as it appears to have windows on either side. Also be aware that TVs have cords and cables and DVRs and so on - where would any of that go? I'd highly recommend putting the TV elsewhere!

I agree, no tv, especially with brick and traditional colors, etc...

I have seen photos of tv with medium-dark metal panels, or concrete, etc... which sort of fits....
