What do do? Open space over tv/fireplace

Argh! I feel like a moron but I need help, please. I have a space above my tv/fireplace that I don't know how to deal with. It's about 8 1/2 feet wide and 3 1/2 feet deep. I feel as though it needs height or a focal point and I don't lno how to create that. If it can be made to be decorative as well as practical that's even better. I do have a few overflowing bookcases.

Good place to ask for options. Here's my take:

Based on what you described, I feel scale is really important here. Since it's above a TV viewing zone, guessing you have a sizable conversation group in front of this with traffic paths and seating facing this exposure. With width and depth available here, I'd recommend grouped pieces of size and interest here that might look interesting silhouetted against your window - pottery with beautiful silhouettes - a planter with greens and your wheeled milk create - that also have volume.

Also, I'd avoid letting things settle into corners, as in your current config. By putting your grouping center stage (or at least keeping it out of both corners), you're highlighting its importance and making it a well-edited statement.

One concern: if both your blind units are currently controlled at center, I'd swap them L>R so they're controlled from either side and don't have cords running down the center of a split-rail header. Cheers!

Personally I think the window is enough. Could you take a picture from further back so we can see the whole wall. Post it here in the comments.

remove everything and get either a stain glass or some film and remove the blind .

Oh my gosh! Thank you so much to everyone for your great suggestions. The blinds are now down and frankly it's already an improvement. Forgive the in-progress state of it, but here's another picture.

Fairwaystyleliving and Geneviève, what are your thoughts on a glass piece in the center of the window and the subsequent related placement of items like the wheeled cart? Still avoid the corners, or can I keep corner placement with a dramatic enough centerpiece?

I think, if you're going with a glass piece, you'd want to let that shine and find another home for any other items that could detract and are very different in terms of concept and texture. Better already!
