I agree topping not that beneficial. Do you have a pic you can post so we can see if they are spindly or leggy?

+1 to both posts above, plant is too young for topping. Topping useful if plant IS spindly but in that case the branches at the first fork should be cut off. The reason being you would then have 2 spindly branches adding to the growth of plant.

I personally don't believe that "topping" a pepper has any benefit. If a plant is getting leggy, it is probably not getting enough light. Also, it will not develop a strong stem if it lives in a basement with no wind. The plants need wind to get them to develop strong stems. Give them enough light and some wind. If you need to add a fan to the grow, then do so....it will help with fungus and pests as well.

Then, when you go to repot your peppers, plant them slightly deeper than they were before.
