Your fruit tree is dead. From what the photos show, the growth at the base most likely is coming from whatever rootstock your fruit tree was grafted/budded to.

I would dig it out and plant a new one. Sorry for bad news!

if you by potted tree from a local Lowe's or Home Depot, you could end up with a peach tree that can't handle cold weather. The rootstock survives but a chance that it will produce good fruit is very slim. Peach grafting is not easy, either. With that in mind, I agree that you should buy a new tree. If you want it quick, buy a potted peach tree from a local nursery. Try Red Haven or Elberta. They will survive Boston cold.

Read up on peach diseases and pests. That may give you a pause or even give up. It is not easy to grow peaches without spraying in the east coast. Check Cornell U. Extension services on peach trees for hone orchard.

Just realize that you titled the thread about pear tree. But you talked about a peach tree. Which one is it?

Sorry I think it was pear. I ended up pulling it out completely. It was a waste of time. I found local nursery that has fruit trees with fruits on it. This kinda gives me some hope at least I know it'll grow in my area.
