Help me make this a clematis support

I have this metal umbrella that my husband made for hummingbird feeders and I would like to add rebar 6 inches on either side and wrap wire down in a spiral around all 3 poles. Will this work and what kind of wire do I need? Sorry the picture is so dark . I have a clematis to put on it I'm not sure what it is, it was a straggly thing my MIL bought in a quart pot at Walmart a few years ago. The flowers look like nelly moser to me but it's only gets about 3-4 feet.

I ended up using garden fencing, digging 6" around the pole and burning the end of the fence to stabilize it. Then twisted the ends to close the loop. I am going to secure it on the top with zip ties, but it is pretty stable. I use this fencing for my other climatis and it climbs it well. I don't know why every time I plant a climatis it seems like i get it too far from the support.

I think it would work! I used copper wire to wrap around mine, seems to be working ok so far!

they climb rebar nicely. You could take three pieces and make a narrow teepee around the pole

When planting clematis it is good to plant a few inches deeper than pot level to encourage vine growth from the base. Also try planting the clematis at a bit of an angle toward the support. I did not know that technique and find that even planted close to the support the vines often need a bit of help to start climbing. A couple of short sticks slanted toward the support can breach the divide.

I transplanted it from another area of the yard and it had a nice root ball, I did go wider and slightly deeper than it was planted before. It is 9-10 inches from the support, should I dig it up and move it closer?

If you recently transplanted it and root system is still getting established in the area, it wouldn't hurt to move it closer. If the wire support diameter was wider I would place the clematis inside.

Update the climatis is really taking off in its new spot. I'm hoping for a bloom so I can figure out what it is.
