kitchen lighting

my kitchen is about 250 square feet, and includes a small dinette area. there are 12 recessed lights, and i need to choose light fixtures to go over the small island and dinnette area. island is 4 feet, and ceilings are low. any suggestions as to what would both look good and be good sources of light?

An open lantern style or clear glass pendant would be nice for the island so it doesn't block a 360 degree view of kitchen. Maybe the Darlana if budget allows. There are many knockoffs of that style too.

4 feet long?

Do you have a photo? Given the fact it's only 4 feet long? You might do two very small scale or one a tad larger scale...not too large though.

A photo of the area would be nice to see the style of your area.

What is the size of the dinette?

the darlana idea is perfect! And way over my budget. but you have given me a great direction to go in as far as a general style, so thank you!

Darlana comes in three sizes and three finishes is fairly budget friendly too. A single small or possibly the medium would look nice as mentioned above. Ballard has a black light similar... they don't have glass which is nice. The nice thing about the lantern lighting is they don't obstruct viewing from one space to another.

Ballard.com light named: Hadley is 18 tall and 11 wide may be a bit too large for this small island.

Given the fact they are on chains install on your ceiling shouldn't pose a problem as it's very adjustable. Just don't hang too high!

Matching your eating area to a light such as this is fairly effortless! Are you keeping the plastic dining set or getting wood or similar?

one day, i plan to replace it with a proper dinette set. I have my wish list for the house, and slowly but surely will fill things in
