Im a bit worried about digging it up and trying to separate it as if it then dies i have no other seed to plant. Should i just cut one down or let it grow unusally together? Worried it may grow twice as slow with energy being split between to trees

Cut one, don't disturb the roots. Since you seem to be fine with having one of them. And really that is the best option.

Keep them both and they will fuse together. The 2 of them will grow faster than one alone.

The 2 trunks will fuse into 1 tree with each tree growing at 3/4 the speed of a lone tree, but there are 2 tree fused as 1 so 3/4 times 2 =1.5 times as fast. The leaf nodes will be closer together and it will produce fruit when the tree is 3/4 as tall. The number 3/4 is chosen for mathematical ease. your trees may chose 87.25% and 77.12% respectively. The trees will continue like this until they fill the pot then you will need to transplant them to a bigger container

The roots of citrus that small will come apart fery easily with out damaging either tree. This is not like separating tomato, pepper, ot collard plants. Citrus roots are thick i n comparison. Separating is the best choice and growing as a pair comes next.

Best way to separate two plants growing together like this is to carefully remove it from the pot and immerse the rootball in a 5-gal bucket of water. Gently swirl around. The soil just falls away. Then you can gingerly coax them apart and repot separately. This is the best time of year to do this.

Even then when you transplant the roots won't be all evenly layered throughout the soil like they are now.

Just being honest and realistic, you will probably never get fruit if that will live as a potted tree it's whole life. If by some miracle you do get enough leaf nodes (how the tree knows it's old enough to reproduce) the last thing you would want is to split them between two different trees.

id still cut one, enjoy growing it, and when you're ready buy a grafted dwarf tree that will stay small in a pot and actually make fruit.

We don't even know what it is besides 'miniature orange'. It could be calamondin, or maybe even mandarin. So it's hard to say how big it needs to be to flower. I thought calamondins flowered fairly quickly compared to say sweet orange.
