Hi Cindy! Thanks so much for asking -- it's a great question. We would recommend having a pitched roof go off the house, and make sure it's at least a 4/12 pitch. The hard part with any porch going off the roof is always the transition from the "regular" house roof to the porch roof, so we definitely recommend planning that transition carefully, enlisting a professional if needed, and position it to give yourself room to pitch the porch roof appropriately.
