Advice on planting together

I bought a Ville de Lyon Clematis it's been on my wish list and a local store had it. I really did try to walk away but when I put the pot down and walked away the owner came over and said if I wanted it I could have it for 5.00 I just couldn't resist. Now my problem is where to plant it. I have a support but my the president is on it. I am wondering if I can plant it on the opposite side of the post. Is this a bad idea? I know I will have to hard prune both because VDL is a type 3 and president is a type 2. I have read on hear that a lot of people hard prune president with just a delay in flowering. Thoughts advice please. Here is the support I would add the garden fencing to the opposite side of the 8x8 post.
