Butterfly love airs conditioning unit?

I have been seeing some bizarre behavior from a butterfly over the last couple weeks. Whenever the air conditioner unit comes on, this one butterfly, without fail, comes and seems to be "riding" the breeze that is coming from the fan (don't worry, there is no way for the butterfly to get caught or sucked in). Has anyone seen this before? What could be the motivation behind this? The butterfly is medium sized, all black or dark brown except the edges of its wings are golden. I am in Southern California.
