I have used an 8 foot post for mine. You can use rebar or dowel rods to hold the bottles. Dowel rods and rebar come in different sizes so you want to make sure you get one that is strong enough AND fits in the bottles you are wanting to display. Use a spade drill bit that is the size of the rod and drill into the post at the angle you want. Insert rod and place the bottle. If you are using a post from the hardware store, you probably want to stain or paint it.

I am inspired to incorporate bottles into my privacy arbor...here is stage one, done yesterday

My plans are similar to chris blue's. however. i'll be repurpossing a diseased 12' pine tree for the base and brasing rods with caulk to waterproof the joints for the bottles
