I am renovating my kitchen and expanding. My wood cabinets are in great shape and want to save and add new to them. I am wondering if it is cost effective to have them stained.

We have not done it, but some other local remodelers have. I have seen one average sized kitchen and the remodeling contractor on that job said the painter charged him $4k to restain the old cabinets (much darker than the original color) and to stain the new cabinets that were added.

If they are in good condition and you like the style then it makes sense to paint or stain them.
