Transplanting Red Select into Containers

Garden · More Info

I need some advice on transplanting a young Red Select. I am definitely new to these so any advise is appreciated. After sifting through such awesome info on garden web, I'm definitely going to go with the 5-1-1 gritty mix, but I'm a little confused on container selection I'm in a rental so I want to be able to take it with me, I'm in zone 6a if that's helpl. I have two containers, but want to make sure I make the right choice the first time.

Also is it ok to transplant now?

Will I need to wash off the roots from their current medium?

Lastly could I plant something like creeping jenny, or a moss on top without hurting the sapling

Thanks in advance
