First time pruning

I've held back on attempting this..so I figured why not on a noid that isn't in bloom..and I'm bored..I think there might be a leaf or two I'm still unsure to pluck..but how did I do for the first time?

Before (excuse the dirt on carpet I can't keep this area clean lol)

After

Sorry for the constant posts..I'm usually a lurker. I did take the leaves and propagated them in the dome method as suggested in a previous post to test this out

Oh I've been putting it off for weeks..I just didnt have the heart to..I debated on the outer leaves but I plucked so much I was afraid I'd panic..I may go back and eventually pluck them when Im not mourning the missing leaves lol

You did good, and Velleta is correct. More serious growers would have removed those 4 big leaves. I too would have removed those 4 big leaves. It won't hurt the plant. Think of pruning like getting a hair cut, don't you feel great after a good hair cut?

I haven't had my haircut in over two years I've forgotten that feeling..

Hmm okay I'll cross over to the dark side..pluck the 4

Heather you did wonderfully! Now,,,,walk slowly toward the violet,,,,take a breath,,,,,,and gently remove the other 4 leaves! Now slowly exhale...and breathe...there, now doesn't she look beautiful????? She will thank you, and those leaves can be planted to make more!!!!! It's a win win! For YOU!!! Rosie

ugh..i havent yet...every time i walk up to it..look at it..and then notice how small it would be if i did..then run away lol

Would you do it if it was for her own good? When you keep a violet shaped in a nice rosette light can get in to all of the areas and promote blooming. It is your choice. Now,,,,do you want a violet that will give you a big burst of bloom???? Or just so so bloom.

I know what I would do,,,,,Now,,,,walk slowly toward the violet,,,,take a breath,,,,,,and gently remove the other 4 leaves! Now slowly exhale...and breathe...there, now doesn't she look beautiful????? She will thank you, and those leaves can be planted to make more!!!!! It's a win win! For YOU!! Rosie

Maybe killing you (laughing matter) but you DO want the best bloom you can get,,,,right? (NO laughing matter), NOW,,walk slowly blah blah blah,,,,you are almost there! Come on Heather you can do it! Rosie

Hi all, I repotted one of my violets this week. I read about cutting off part of the roots and removing some of the older leaves so that it can remain in the same sized pot. That is what I did, but now I keep looking at it. It seems lopsided to me and I feel that I should remove some more of the lower leaves. The leaves are still there, and I still keep looking at her for now. One day I will take them off.

dont worry rosie...still kicking...maybe a little worse for wear...and yes..when i read your comment..i was sitting next to my av's ...took the av..plucked the 4...and planted the leaves..I did try to prune a few of my other noids..but i think it'll be easier when they are done flowering..i have one noid that has a ton of blooms..and two of them look like they were pruned from the grower so it was a bit more challenging

YOU DID IT!!!!!????? Now that wasn't so bad was it? Nah,,,,I take leaves off whenever the spirit moves me. But yeah, if the flowers are out of the way, you can see the rosette structure it is supposed to have.

WOW!! Good for you,,,,,you did it!!!! Honestly I thought it would take a few more days and a lot more nudging!!! hahahahahaha Rosie

It's so small now :0( I think because it was a noid with no flowers it was much easier..the others aren't quite there yet..I'm curious to see how quickly they'll bounce back..I purchased plants months ago..I think last fall..they've grown..but I'm seeing folks have theirs from leaves and flower in the same amount if time as I've had them..

What you can't know exactly is how they do things, how they water, the temp they keep the violets at, and so on. No two are alike and mama will make babies when SHE is ready and not a minute sooner. Some produce babies faster than others Be patient. It happens to everyone! Rosie

You're right..that set I was given a freebie and it's twice the size of the others
