It may sound cliche, but swabs have been the best for me. They store really easily, you don't have to deal with a bottle, and you just tear one open and swab the knife. It may sound like you go through a lot, but you really only need to prune once a year. Small, compact, and easy to use. You probably could fit 20 swabs in your pocket with no trouble.

The alternative is trying to wet a paper towel just right every 5 minutes (it ends up taking longer and wasting more alcohol) or coating the knife in alcohol (even with a sprayer, it ends up being kind of wasteful).

Now, a bottle of acohol or hydrogen peroxide is dang useful for mixing with water and neem oil to kill bugs, but for just cleaning stuff, stick with swabs.

Anything too big for a swab is probably something you only disinfect after you've just killed someone and need to get rid of the evidence.

I have always used the circular cotton wipes that woman use to remove make-up.

I dip my tools but keep a lid on the jar against evaporation between dips. I use spray for my work surfaces, the plant stock, and my hands.
