How to position my sectional

I just bought a sectional on a whim, but not sure if I purchased it in the correct arrangement though.

Which way looks better, long side of the sectional towards half wall sectioning off the area or chaise lounge side towards the half wall opening the space up?

I also included a picture of the sectional and over sized ottoman I bought. So I wonder if the chaise is closer to half wall/kitchen, if it would be too much couch to look at! If I keep the long side by the half wall, I plan to spruce up the sofa table a bit.

Or open up the area? Though I feel like it takes away from the wall with the tree. The armrest would be on the other side. Would the look of the sofa be overbearing? Picture of new sofa below with very large ottoman.

This is an older post and I'm not sure if you've resolved your issue or not, but I would say to separate the chaise from the L-shape and use them as two pieces if that's possible (depending on the upholstery and how the pieces are "finished out" between). If that's possible, I would maybe use the chaise in another room, or positioned in the opposite corner of windows. With an arch floor lamp and a small table, that'd be a great reading nook. Then move the sofa as far over as you can but centered on the wall that is facing the fireplace with the L sectioning off the room. You do need a bigger sofa table, as the one you have shown is a bit too small and "dainty" for the size of the sofa. If you can get a more substantial piece for that space, I think it will look more intentional as a definition of the room. I wouldn't clutter the top of sofa table, keep it simple with pretty "coffee table books" or maybe a hurricane/candle, something chucky but not too tall, and no frames because if you're in the room you're looking at the back of the picture frames (no bueno). There's nothing wrong with defining a space by placing furniture in this way, but you dont want to muck up sight lines because that's what makes it feel open. The recommendation on the sofa table is important because you've got so much sofa that you need to balance it with some weight - think chucky wood legs or something with a drawer. If a different table is not in the budget right now, forgo a table there at all and just drape a pretty throw over the back for some interest, maybe a knubby basket in the corner by the wall to cammoflage the vent there. If you love the small table and want to keep it in the room, move it under the wall tree arrangement.
