I have a ton of cuban oregano both varigated and green...the squirrels keep digging it up trying to bury stuff in my planters and the cuban oregano just keeps on surviving...i've got one plant of it that seems to have gone almost albino...i wonder if i took a cutting would the cutting continue to grow so pale. Here is my varigated one.

you've got a pretty good list there, in addition yard long beans, ginger, turmeric, jerusalem artichokes, jamaican sorrel (jamaican rose), figs, bananas of course and kale still going strong from last year. oh yeah mangoes of course :)

Pea, thats great to hear. Cuban Oregano is my newest addition. I only bought it last week. Mine is variegated too but the stems are purplish. I was told it's great on pizza!

Maria, those sound like great suggestions. I planted Jerusalem artichokes in the winter. They grow very quickly but I think I lost them to the drought. I oddly enough can't find Jamaican sorrel anywhere.

My kale was devoured by grasshoppers last spring and my mango only bore a few fruit this year :(

florida joe my jamaican sorrel is getting nice and bushy, no seeds left over this year, but once these guys flower happy to send you some for next season.

sorry about your kale and mangoes ( a lot of ppl complain of their trees not fruiting much this yr). For some reason kale seems to do exceptionally well in my garden. Daily smoothies, juices and kale chips since November last yr:) ... other veggies not so much :(

btw galangal is a great suggestion if you can find it... i can't but would love to grow it.

I often see galanga tubers. A thai vendor sells them at his stand at a farmers market near to me. I've thought of buying a few to plant but from online descriptions of the taste and fibrous nature of them, ginger seems better?

Pea, that's very cool looking. I wonder if the taste is milder in the white leaves. It would be even weirder if it survived on it's on though unlikely with so little chlorophyll

Galangal's taste is so unique, so different than ginger. I bought fresh root from Asian store and put it in the ground a few months ago. It is now about six feet tall. I also grow tumeric from fresh root , also from Asian store. I just discovered (from the heavy rain this past two weeks) that it likes lots of water. If you grow galangal, consider adding lemon grass and kaffir lime. They go together taste wise, and are always required in Thai dishes.
