You will want to make sure you have some way to circulate the air as all dryers emit heat and some level of humidity, depending on how wet the laundry is when it goes into the dryer. You will also want easy access to the unit for cleaning and maintenance. You don't say if your dryer is actually located in the basement. If the dryer is not located there, the BetterVent Indoor Dryer Vent should be located as close to the dryer as is possible for efficiency.

We just purchased a mid-century modern home that was built in 1962. To our dismay, we have discovered that the dryer ( it is electric ) vents out into the garage in a rather strange way. The metal flexible hosing extends into the garage and is about 5ft in length, at the end of the hose is a device to catch the lint and rests inside a bucket. There is no evidence of water inside the bucket. We wonder if we purchase new metal flexible hose and clamps, can we use the Better Vent Indoor Dryer Vent and mount it on the garage wall for better venting and a better appearance overall?

I like the idea of saving the heat and the humidity from the clothes dryer in the winter. It gets so cold and dry during the long winter here in NY. Is there a way to switch from indoor to outdoor venting? Some sort of valve available? If not it would be a great idea for a product development!

Would one of the small fans that fit into the corner of a door push out the humidity from the laundry room into the rest of the house reduce the issue of condensation?

We do not currently have a diverter such as you describe but simply moving the transition hose from the BetterVent to the outside vent would work. There is at least one quick disconnect available for sale that would help with that.

CAN I USE INDOORS IF I DON'T HAVE ANY OUTSIDE VENT?

The BetterVent was created just for this use. It is intended to connect to the dryer by way of the transition hose that would otherwise go to the outside vent. Instead, it connects to the bottom of the BetterVent that is then attached to the wall near the dryer.
