Ooooo! I really like your herb garden!

maybe you could do a theme garden there. I want to do a Harry Potter garden next year--using as many of the herbs (that are safe) that I can find from the books. I have the bed built but had to use it for peppers this year. Other people here have mentioned various theme gardens, like certain colors for a favorite sports team. Maybe a fairy garden? I love my fairy garden. Or medicinal herb garden?

I was going to suggest a fairy garden for Wren but Hazel beat me to it. That could be a lot of fun. Or, if you like succulents, you could fill it with a coarse, very well draining mix (I'd use lots of tiny gravel, some sand and decomposed granite mixed with a soil-less mix to ensure great drainage) and plant succulents in it.

Planting flowers as June begins generally would mean you'd need to be planting the true heat lovers---dwarf zinnias, moss rose, angelonia, periwinkles, etc. Oh, the periwinkles just gave me an idea....you could plant a Fourth of July garden or a patriotic garden with red, white and blue flowers. Or, if you don't have a lot of flowers already that are specifically meant to attract hummingbirds, you could plant a hummingbird garden. If you want something different, this is about the time of the year that the stores (at least down here at this end of the state) start getting some hot weather color in the form of ornamental peppers, so they'd be an option to give a flower bed more than just flowers. The possibilities are endless. I hope you have fun with it, no matter what you decide to do with it.

I like the fairy garden idea too. You could fashion all sorts of fun stuff in your spare time lol to put in there.

Great ideas girls! I think I may go with ornamental peppers! That sounds easy, heat tolerant, and colorful. Although ill have to work with Roo not to touch or eat them. I guess she'd only do it once but that could be a VERY bad day.. yikes. I wonder if I have any dwarf Zinnia seeds left? A fourth of July garden sounds fun too! Lots to think about..

I've heard of people planting Harry Potter gardens! Cracks me up, but a cute idea. I saw a cool plant that looks like candy canes someone included in theirs. Like a tiny callalily i think? I wonder what that was. I'll try to find that post again. Speaking of medicinal, I do have a st. John's wort seedling I could put in there, but I think it'll turn to a scraggly scrubby bush, so maybe not the ideal candidate for center of the garden.

I'd love to do a fairy garden but I think ill wait til she's a bit older since I know the pieces of it will get scattered throughout the yard! Then Mike will just mow over them lol.

Succulents hate me although I continue to try and try and try.. I made Al's gritty mix last year and killed a bunch by under-watering, added more pine bark and peat moss and lost the rest the same way. Cacti survived but not succulents. Lol I wonder if I filled it with some sedum groundcovers. That could be fun.

Kim, I forgot about the seeds! Ill send her a note. I wonder if she's left for her trip yet? I need to get those planted I have the perfect spot! Once the corn comes out, i could fill that area too! Thanks for the reminder!

H/J, I saw these prairie smoke blooms, (Guem?) In my flower farmers group and thought of your theme garden. It makes me think of troll doll hair, but could go well in a harry potter garden(obviously not in the books but)
