Lamarque from ARE

I ordered two Lamarque from ARE yesterday and I have a question about re-bloom. I was really excited about this rose until I started reading that the repeat might not be great for some people and this distresses me because I was under the impression that once established it would be a large repeat bloomer from spring until frost. I am in SE Tx in Zone 8 and we have very hot summers with temps in the high 90's to over 100 at times. I would appreciate any information any one has to share on their experiences with this rose. Thanks!

I'm in Tuscany, zone 9-ish, and mine repeats ok, nothing like the first exquisite spring flush. It's also because mine is planted too close to a hot hot south-facing wall so during the worst of the summer it's a bit stressed unless I stay on top of watering.

I love this rose though. It took three years before it "came into its own". Now it's huge and probably has roots going to China.

Thanks Anna-Lyssa! I bet yours is gorgeous. So after the big spring flush you do have some rebloom, just not huge?

Hi, BonCrow! The Lamarque roses I have had experience with in N TX and the Hill Country were all reliably remontant. They may have rested a bit during the extremely hot stretch, but in my opinion, Lamarque is a solid reblooming rose for the area. It's also beyond gorgeous when it matures and puts on a big flush! Give it time. It is more floriferous and remontant each year. Then? Traffic stopping!! Nice scent. Healthy. It's such a classic rose. I wouldn't be without it in the southern part of the country. Thank you Anna-Lyssa and Carol for reassuring me that I made a good decision choosing Lamarque. Ann-Lyssa, Carol was right about your pictures they say it all! I am even more excited now than I was before. I ordered two Lamarque where they will be placed on separate ends of a huge arbor at the end of my porch and a Sombreuil will be placed at the back of the arbor on the opposite side. My hope is that the Lamarque will meet in the middle and completely cover that end of the arbor with Sombreuil taking care of the back end.

Thank you ladies for your encouragement and beautiful photos!

There is an old Lamarque in my neighborhood which is HUGE - at least 10 ft tall and 8-9 feet wide. It has an enormous Spring flush, and then repeats reliably through November. We are in Northern Calif, dry hot summers - cool wet winters.

Thanks Jackie! I'm glad to hear everyone is reporting a good repeat bloom.

Wow, it sounds glorious. I hope you post photos of the arbor! Oh and I've seen a photo of Jackie's neighbour's Lamarque and it is, indeed, enormous.

Lamarque repeat bloomed for me in England in its first year. It was throwing most of its attention into quadrupling in size after the first flush but it did repeat steadily, if not heavily all the way to October. I am really looking forward to this rose in the future when it is properly established.

Fduk your Lamarque is so pretty! I'm glad to hear it's been a vigorous grower for you and is looming well. I know it's going to take several years for mine to get to a substantial size so I'm going to be patient, I'm not very good at being patient but I'm going to try lol.
