If you get allot of rain maybe...most clover have deep roots and suck nutrient away from tree.

Older trees will tolerate underplantings but not all underplantings can tolerate the tree's shade. Perhaps the Dutch clover will spread in shade.

I had not heard of clover being prone to sucking nutrients--is that a particular species?

My clover, mostly red, can be thriving/green when grass can be brown from drought....which tells me they have a deep root system taking nourishment away.

Clover pulls nitrogen from the atmosphere and stores it In nodules on its roots. I use a lot of it in the row middles in my vineyards. When you disc the ground, cutting the roots, it makes the nitrogen available to the vines.

Should work as well for trees
