I like the frame. Sometimes the frame takes away the picture mounted and this frame is thin and simple.

Love the palm trees print for a bedroom. I can picture myself where they are swaying in the breeze- a place far from everyday troubles and helps me drift off to sleep with pleasant dreams..would prefer a frame of old wood though....

There's art and then there are commercial pieces produced in huge volume simply to make a profit. One can spend any amount of money on original art produced by the artist as an artistic expression. Look for that. Look for something that is moving and challenging and layered and interesting that will hold your interest for years and try to meet the artist and see other works of theirs.

Normally I like to choose pieces that have a special meaning for my spouse and I. My mother was a artist and did many paintings of birds and flowers. The painting of the golden birds reminds me very much of the beautiful art Mom would present to family members for our birthdays, Christmas or other special occasions. Thank you for the beautiful reminder of how very talented my mother was. We miss her so much.

Most of the comments above are ones I can relate to. Now that I am, ahem, older, I have limited wall space so new art choices have to be carefully considered. I don't buy prints any longer - I save up and buy direct from the artist. It makes for a more meaningful purchase (and supports artists!). But the downside of that - I am now collecting a closet full of nicely framed, cheaper art prints that I either can't part with, or that aren't re-sellable. I can't abide to have even the cheap print (in the $75 Hobby Lobby frame) go for $5 at a garage sale. As to the above choices: I like Reflection; it's interesting, and neutral enough not to fight with the rest of a room.

What do others do with the art they no longer hang? It's a conundrum!

WICAT, and you can and you did. Buying "the cheap print" is yet another reason to purchase original art. You don't have anything of value left when it's time to move up. You might consider donating your "cheap prints" to a non profit facility, there are many in different categories that help people and animals that might appreciate it.

I like large acrylic or oil canvases of landscapes in colors I love. The larger, the better. Finding the right art is the hardest part of decorating for me. I like maybe 1% of what I see. It totally changes the mood of the room if it is a large piece.

In one of my first apartments, I bought 6 posters of Angus Macpherson's clouds. The colors were blues, pinks, purples. Some were peaceful, some dramatic. Whenever I moved, it was easy to change them around to different rooms as needed.

I prefer art by local artists of scenes that mean something to my family, not just art that matches the color of the wall. Shopping in person at local fine art galleries is the best way to shop for art for your home, imo.
