Lane Furniture made those in the 50's and 60's. French Provincial style. Looks like a cedar chest of some sort. I've redone many of this style. they look nice painted if that's what you want to do. As for any worth, no, they are not worth anything.

Go back to wherever you purchased and get the key. I assume you've made sure it isn't taped to the UNDERSIDE? Or get ...... a screwdriver........or a LOCKSMITH!!! It was probably 1960 ish Lane, and someone painted what was originally wood.

i'm going to guess it had the white/yellowish factory finish on it (and you can see the white peeking through) most of that style did. here is what it prob looked like new.

I grew up in Altavista, VA, where the Lane Company made cedar chests for many years. I have several. On one similar to yours, I just push the button and it opens. No, the backs were not finished.
