I have had very good luck with them potted in about 80% peat and maybe 20% chopped semi composted leaves (semi composted because that is just the stage they were at at the time) and a few handfuls of sand mixed in. I make sure to have an appropriate size of container for the size of the plant, and increase the container size as they grow until they are in a final 10 gallon or so. I pile leaves around the pots for winter (zone 6a-5b)

Hi Matt, I'm not sure where you are but in Australia, you can buy low ph potting mix for acid loving plants at Bunnings. ( Osmocote 25L Professional Rose / Gardenia / Azalea And Camellia Potting Mix ). I've been using that for all my blueberry plants and they're growing really well in it.

Early in Jan this year (Summer), I bought 5 Sunshine Blues and planted in the garden bed (soil ph of 6 ) - since people were saying this variety can tolerate higher soil ph level than other cultivars. By March, most of the newer leaves were showing symptom of iron chlorosis and the plants weren't growing as much - if at all. While my other variety 'Blueberry Burst' was growing like weed in a medium size pot with the acid potting mix I got from Bunnings. It almost triple in size compared to the Sunshine Blues, they were similar in size to begin with.

For my blueberry potting medium. I combined and used 70% of the acid potting mix - with 30% coarse pine bark. I tested the ph level and it's between 5 to 5.5.

My Sunshine Blues are growing well ever since I potted them. I'm seeing a lot of new vegetative growth and it's now winter in Australia.

unfortunately I can't find the acidic potting mix anywhere except for online.

Yes, I tested the coarse pine bark mulch I have with a ph testing dye kit and the ph is around 5 to 5.5. I'm not sure if all pine barks will have that ph level. Growing blueberries have become an obsession for me.

I have been using this potting mix medium for all my blueberries and they are all doing well so far.

I'm excited and some what cautious to try out fruitnut's (another bluberry grower on this forum) ammonium sulfate formula come spring, have you seen his post? That's a very interesting article. I'll have to try that because those 1 year pant is bigger than my 2 or 3 year old ones.

I have about 12 blueberries in containers. Some are in custom built containers using fence boards, others are in half wine barrels. The wine barrels are deeper than blueberry roots need, but they are relatively cheap and convenient.

I have used 100% peat moss with good success.

Most of the below plants are entering their second year, while a couple are several years old. This was an especially harsh winter in Portland, so there was a lot of dieback from cold damage, but everything seems to be recovering well.
