Gallatin is just outside Nashville. I've only passed by the area on the highway.

Have you made the move yet? I live not too far from Gallatin. Maybe 40 or 50 miles. The climate has been wonderful this year. Mild winter and rain consistently all summer. Some years we have significant droughts though.

You can probably grow about anything here that you can grow in Asheville.

Impatiens selfsow reliably. I consider them perennial here. This year the dreaded mildew didn't show up.

No, we haven't moved yet. Its gonna be quite some time before we do. Ive just have alot of time invested into my current garden, and so i am doing tons of research now so as to avoid losing anything as much as possible. Anyway, is it unusual for Taro to be perennial in the area? i also love cannas, and several other tropical looking plants.

We had a milder than usual winter. I have had it survive other winters with extra mulching.

Musa basjoo is pretty tropical looking. I planted this one in '07.
