Cute x 2! The end of last year I befriended a squirrel in our backyard. She would come over and take an unshelled walnut from my hand. The rule in our household was one a day---you are MUCH more generous than I! Unfortunately she disappeared near Christmas time and has not been seen since.

Sorry to tell you...those dang squirrels do not keep their promises.

I befriended a robin this spring. He followed me around as I dug .

I started throwing him little worms and grubs. Now when ever I'm out there he flits down and looks at me.

I call him Robbie......

Actually, the squirrels in my area pretty much have no interest in my garden plants. They dig little holes in the lawn sometimes, but I don't care.

Myrle the squirrel...that's cute! We don't have any squirrels or chipmunks in my neighborhood. They would be fun to watch although I'm sure they would drive my dogs crazy!

She's cute! Ours run away, probably a good thing since we have a squirrel eating fox and owls who grab the less cautious squirrels.

Squirrels have dug up several plants this year, which then dried out and died . This happens every year. That is the reason I lugged home two 40 lb. sacks of round river stones from Home Depot and put a ring of them around every single plant I have. I am tired of daily finding holes, some of them rather large, around the base of plants. We have a couple pairs of red tail hawks living on campus at the end of the street, but I guess they are sated with pigeons and campus squirrels. They are cute from a distance, but the squirrels around here are quite destructive.

we feed our squirrels plenty of peanuts. They leave the plants alone except for the rare occasion when they land in the planters which are below the peanut feeder.

I love all these stories of befriending the animals. She's a cute squirrel! I had one checking out everything on the deck yesterday, but they're hardly ever a pest around here. I call the scrub jays and they come and get their peanuts, and I had a hummingbird land on my hat the other day. I think it just wanted me away from its feeder. I also have a beautiful longhaired tortoise shell cat that is a stray. I've been feeding her and trying to gain her trust.

Last summer, she was very badly injured. As you can see, it looked like she lost an eye. Turned out she didn't, her wounds were so swollen that her eye couldn't be seen under all the damage. Lucky little squirrel.

I have lots of squirrels but they ignore my hostas. yipes

I have a love/hate relationship with the squirrels. Hate them in my garden and bird feeders but love them in the frying pan.

we keep saying that we'd like to close the peanut "restaurant"..I could've bought a lot of nice hostas for what we've spent on peanuts..

Myrle the squirrel. As in Mctavish Myrle too? She has them all over her yard and had to close all the tiny holes in their soffits as they were storing their stash in the attic . He threw acorns at me the little brat. We do have one that comes and eats out of the bird feeders and teases the dogs and cat ... lives dangerously. My husband calls Myrle my neighbor "squirrelly Myrle " if you recall her and her beautiful hostas on this site

I had a few pots in the back yard - the squirrels dug up the geraniums, but ignored petunias.The only thing that messes with my hostas is rabbits. Apparently our resident great horned owl has moved on; in years past, the owl did a good job of keeping the rabbits under control.

Thank God for cats!

How cute! I like squirrels and I like to see them drinking out of the bird baths in my yard. I haven't started feeding them though ;)

Our resident squirrel doesn't bother the hosta but loves the sunflowers. He has to watch for my wiener dogs as they love him too. He knows where his bread is buttered

I only have one squirrel story. Warning: not for the squeamish!

A couple of years ago, during a February thaw, I saw one of my rain gutters overflowing. Downspout plugged, obviously. So, assuming it was full of leaves, I stuck my hand up there and pulled out a couple handfuls. The last handful had some long, string-like things in it. The next time I put my hand in, I pulled out some more strings but something was holding more up inside. I pulled and pulled but couldn't get it.

I got a pair of pliers so I could get a better grip, and pulled and pulled and pulled, and you guessed it: out came a dead, partially frozen squirrel!! Ack!!! Poor thing. Apparently got stuck in there at some point.

And I never stick my bare hands in downspouts anymore.

littlebug..sorry that you had such a gross experience..we have hawks and owls and I think? they kill squirrels..I found a squirrel leg once..
