The top pictures are the grafted in Al's gritty mix and the bottom pictures are non grafted in the soil they came in. So you are telling me the crown root should be above the soil the same as the grafted trees? Is Al's gritty mix good for them or do you recommend something else. The trees I just bought have all of the root under the soil. Thank you. Cathy

The top of the roots of my trees are visible at the soils surface. My seed grown meiwa kumquat trees have a half inch of root above the soil line.

Cathy, the import thing to remember is to definitely not cover any of the bark. It is OK to leave some of the roots exposed, as in the top two photos, although I like to cover them a bit more. In the bottom two pictures, I can't tell if any of the bark is covered.

The gritty mix is fine for all citrus, grafted or not.

Make sure you feed them every time you water. I use Foliage Pro 9-3-6, 1 1/2 Tsp/gal water.
