My new project/experiment for this year is to try and grow true cranberries. I dug a trench 14 inches deep, about 2 1/2ft. wide and 17ft. long. Put a 2 inch layer of gravel in the bottom, used 12" x 50' house flashing and lined the edge. Then filled with a mix of peat moss, perlite and an acidic soil conditioner called Mountain Magic. (I did a similar mix 2 years ago in a sunken cattle trough and planted blueberries in, which have been doing very well) I used a flexible rubber lawn edging to raise the edge of the perimeter as the mix inside will settle and to keep the exterior soil and runoff out. For the first 10 ft. I spaced out 4 cranberry plants and the final feet I put in some blueberry bushes and a lingonberry. Anyone else experimenting with low soil pH loving plants?
