Digital Adapter to UNscramble what Mediacom Scrambles

I am on Mediacom cable Family TV, for which they scramble their cable service, so we have to pay them a monthly fee for their digital adapter box to unscramble what they scrambled. Kind of a shame when a person has more than one TV. $$

My question is: Is there an adapter box I can buy that UNscrambles what they scrambled so I can watch TV, OR does Mediacom have it rigged to where a person has to go through them technically for it to work, therefore still having to pay a monthly fee to see even though it is my box?

Hope I explained for you to know what I mean. :-)

Could you find one? Probably. Would it work? Maybe. I have no idea what level of security Mediacom uses but at least for Comcast, the STB needs to be registered on their system in order to function. I had a friend who picked up some a new STB at the local Comcast office and still needed to call in to register it. The boxes occasionally "phone home" and if they aren't authorized, they stop working.

In any case, it's still theft of service. It's their cable signal, not public airwaves.

Oh oh, Must not even think about it then. I am embarrassed to not realizing what I was thinking and wanting. Thanks for setting me straight, and not "going to jail". Whew!

Before time warner changed to spectrum they did that a few years ago with certain channels on expanded basic. Since I don't have a cable box on my TV I lost those channels and chose not to get the adapter. I have the cable app on my tablet so could watch the scrambled channels that way. At the time I was still using an old analog TV and now that I have a smart TV it has the cable app so I have access to all those channels on my TV again. Maybe your cable company has the option to use the app. Mary

I remember the days when you could buy a 'descrambler' which worked so well. Had one for years and never got caught. Don't think you can find any now, but who knows!
