We purchased a number of bare root grafted fruit trees this spring, some of which are quite crooked from the graft location. My husband planted them with the rootstock straight up and down, and the upper grafted part crooked. He says they just need to be staked in order to grow straight. I wish he had planted them with the graft straight up and down at the rootstock crooked. Which of us is correct?
