We grow 'em big up here!

Visited a local specialty nursery recently that has an amazing and very well established display garden. While the focus is on rhododendrons, they have many other trees, mostly Japanese maples, in amongst the display rhodies and azaleas.

From a distance, I first though this was some sort conifer......maybe a yew. But the closer I got, the more it looked like a deciduous tree and when you get really close, you can see the distinct maple foliage.

btw, it's the one on the right I am referring to.........the largest Shishigashira I have ever seen!! If you enlarge the photo you can kind of see the 4' tall chainlink fence behind the lefthand maple (Acer shirasawanum 'Aureum' - not a shabby size for that selection, either!!). Extrapolating from that, the tree must be at least 25' tall........probably closer to 30'.
