A rough sketch.

My first thought is I'd put a couch in the alcove area against the long blank wall and make it a super comfortable reading/relaxing area. Add a nice floor lamp on end of couch near window, a table/chest under the window, and keep that chair in there just move it out more towards the corner.

The wall with the TV could use much bigger furniture, maybe a very large dresser.

A large rug that fits under the bed and drapery panels. Lower, longer dresser. Art.

Part II,,,behind the bed-wall area. you like the accent look around the windows? few ideas to consider,,,,reclaimed wood type of wall, painted shiplap, change out the blinds to shades, and get a platform type of bed since your headboard is the windows. The boxspring you have isn't cutting it! (yes a bedskirt would work, but I like this platform bed!) notice the reclaimed wood (just imagine your widows in the middle of it) and a nice rug.

I was trying to find a pic to show you what the wood looks like around the 3 windows. Has to be a kitchen pic!. look cool the inner black trim of the windows look against the warm wood tones. then you could do a simple white shade of some sort. White paint on the walls of the rest of the room and maybe a pale blue ceiling would look super!

This is the same idea, but using shiplap that you paint. you can use regular shiplap or cut your own, depending on your budget and skill level. (it's super easy)

I love this navy blue paint above and a pale blue/gray paint below. (notice the beds!)

Alcove: I would make that a "relaxing space"
Drapes hung high close to the ceiling. Floor lamp, Fiddle leaf fig tree 6 ft (Home Depot). Place tree in a basket and cover with moss. Comfy chair with ottoman, small table

Reading / relaxing spot

That is a beautiful rug, it just doesn't fit where you have it. Move that rug to the alcove, centering it lengthwise between the 2 walls.

Then, place a much larger rug (8x10) under the bed like in some of the examples you've seen so far. I see you really like the blue and grey color scheme, so one of these rugs will really look lovely in this room:

Or, if you want a high contrast between bed and floor, this rug will look stunning:

When you said that you are keeping the bed, does that mean that you want to keep your BLUE color? I saw this rug in several model homes and I LOVE it! It will look great with your existing bedding by expanding the colors in the room. Chrysanthemum rug in "wrought iron"

This model home bedroom was a shallow room.

Note the chest of drawers for clothes. Those, plus a wider lower dresser would look great! Since the room is shallow, there was only room for a bench. If you have the space, I love 2 chairs and a table at the foot of the bed. Room redo gets expensive when purchasing good substantial dressers. So, if you decide to keep your bench, accessorize it with a mix of pillows like those used on your bed.

I would add roman shades to soften all the windows. Chest type nightstands as suggested. A fully upholstered bed with a very low headboard. If you do something like this, you can have the headboard modified so it sits just under your window.

Definitely a longer, lower dresser (at least 25% larger than the t.v. if you're going to keep it mounted there). If you want to hide the t.v., I would put it in a lovely armoire that can be used for the t.v. as well as dresser space. You could use something like this.
In the alcove, I would add a beautiful, comfortable chair with an ottoman, reading light, and plant as suggested along with a small table to set a cup of coffee and add a piece of artwork. A larger area rug as suggested to slide partway under the bed. An 8 x 10 would probably work. Replace your bench with a fully upholstered bench that you can use to store your pillows at night. Are you keeping the bedding?

Thank you all for your suggestions!! I was happy to learn that I had a few things in mind, and they were mostly what you all have suggested! What is there now was supposed to be temporary (we moved from a sailboat to the house), and 5 years have passed!!!

So I'll get on and get moving! Really appreciate all the great ideas!!!!

Also I do like grays and blues, but open to a new color scheme. As for the bed skirt... I hate them!! Again, thank you all!!!

An upholstered bed or even a wood bed with side rails eliminates the need for a bed skirt. I hate them too!

I love all the ideas! question regarding the window treatments: is it ok to mix curtain (sliding door) with roman/woven shades (windows)? Is there a rule of thumb when using both? Thanks

I have seen both used and love the look. Example:

It certainly can be done. I would just keep them in the same color or you could do a fabric curtain panel on the sliders and a bamboo or rattan roman shade on the windows. Just be sure it's lined.
