Install Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring. It has lifetime residential warranty and 15-year commercial.

Linoleum will not last, not to mention I don't remember the last time anyone mentioned linoleum to be used in the house.

Yes, marmoleum is linoleum. Another brand name is Marmorette by Armstrong flooring.

Vinyl is full of VOC's and toxins - dangerous out gassing for humans, pets and mother earth.

Linoleum is made from linseed oil. But, yes it does gouge and may not hold up the way you need.

I'm not sure but I think rubber is more resilient - try and ask your flooring store and the manufacturer.

Have you considered waxed concrete floors? You could do a variety of colors if you wanted to mix things up.

If you're considering "lino" I suggest getting the commercial type and a commercial installer. A whole-house install needs to be done by an outfit experienced in working with the product.

Definitely. We would not try to put down the sheet lino ourselves. We'll certainly be looking for a professional installer. But, commercial, you say? Can you tell me the difference? I think some of the colors I have seen and preferred fell under "commercial".

A friend recently installed Marmoleum throughout her entire small home; it was absolutely the right choice. Very nondescript, doesn't overpower and allows the other features of the small house to be the stars.

We have Marmoleum in a room that was originally a boy's bedroom and is now an office. Fresco Blue with a solid black edge around the room. It has has not held up well, even though it has only been lightly used. There are lots of scuff marks that don't come out, and scratches just from rolling a desk chair over it. I wouldn't use it again.

I haven't checked houzz in a while... lots of great insights on my question! We have made a choice to go with Marmoleum. We got a quote for laying sheet and it was waaaaay beyond what we expected. Also, since the sheet width is quite narrow, many seams would be required. We decided on Marmoleum click-lock and since we laid the original cork floor, we felt confident to lay the new one ourselves. We plan to do that over the Thanksgiving holiday when we have several days off work. The color we liked, Wine Barrel, was discontinued so we bought all of the remaining stock from www.greenbuildingsupply.com and it is stacked in our garage waiting. I was nervous about the dark color and have been reading many of the horror stories about them here on houzz but, decided there is enough color variation in the tile to overcome some of the dark floor issues *fingers crossed*.

We have a modern house with tall windows, light plaster, light wood and persian rugs in each room so I'm hoping, as bbylynda commented, the floor 'doesn't overpower and allows the other features of the small house to be the stars'.

caseyb your new home sounds similar to ours in concept. The look of the floor in pictures you linked to are absolutely what we are hoping for!
