does not look good. I think it was planted too deeply. Why is the soil immediately around the plant gray in color?

Not a cardboard palm, either (Zamia furfuracea), but Zamia integrifolia. Definitely susceptible to rot, particularly if the plant got damaged while moving. Best to dig it up, cut off foliage and inspect root/caudex for injuries.

We are getting a lot of rain right now (FL), which is why the sand (soil) appears grey.

The leaves are rotting. Combination of being too low and having wet mulch on them. You want to make sure there is no rot on the stem when you pull it up and check it. It will want to be in full sun, which helps keep it dry. Bob, that looks like one of those loddigesii type of furfuracea. If you blow up the picture, you can see a few prickles on the petioles.

OH, didn't realize size of plant... indeed could be furfuracea... definitely planted too deep (planting an integrifolia that deep might not be a problem, but wouldn't recommend that either, but definitely not a good idea for a furfuracea... want a good deal of the plant base/caudex to above soil . Plant below is in pot, but that's how I would plant one out in the soil (maybe even higher if heavy rainfall area). Plant above is potted, but that still shows about how far out of the soil the caudex should be. Never seen a Zamia planted that deeply... just asking for problems.
