Our living room is 20x30. For reference, currently in this room are: woodstove with necessary clearances, wood bins, queen size bed, two full size sofas, an armoir, an antique dresser with mirror, a 6' long dresser, a 5' long sewing desk, two wingback chairs, a third armchair, a too-big coffee table, two sewing boxes, two small dining tables with three chairs each, and various small things like guitars, boxes of flooring, etc. In other words, a LOT of furniture, but none of it is stacked, crowded, or otherwise arranged in a way that would be unusable. (We're renovating, if you can't tell!)

It's a fine size for us because we have a very large family who gathers here often. Average group size is 12-18, and that balloons to 40+ for holidays. We would probably find it too large if we didn't often host crowds. If you don't have large gatherings often, the extra space won't be of much benefit to you and will add considerable expense. The porch is an attractive feature; I wouldn't sacrifice it.

Go ahead, it just takes away a little imagination to an unimaginative plan.
