Evan here uses something that does a very good job for his...I think it's some sort of paint..He should be by...He also lives there...

You have to use something that allows the trunk to breath...

I use a white wash of latex paint mixed 50/50 with water. Put a couple coats on the trunk up to where it's shaded by its own leaves.

Thanks Evan, how often does it need to be painted?

Haname, you'll know, the paint starts to crack & get thin when the trunk gets more girth. I usually paint mine in early spring when it starts to warm up and then I have to put another coat on mid summer because the trees have grown and the paint is getting thin.
