Thursday Crop

A line of thunderstorms went through last night so the plants got a good drink after a long dry spell. As usual, our power went out, but it came back on in about 45 minutes.

The flowers all looked refreshed (although some have water spots).

Serenade of Springtime was planted last season. I really like this one.

Articulate Matrix is getting going after being buried in weeds.

Ashwood Rings of Saturn does well here.

August Wedding is having its best season.

Blockbuster has a nice eye.

Eyes of a Child is in the worst bed in the garden. We need to move all those in that bed if only we had the space. It's a small flowered one.

This is Gryphon Chelsea London. I think the color is rather dull, but Bob likes it.

Identity Crisis has variegated foliage. It hard to keep it going because some fans revert to all green and then they crowd out the weaker variegated ones.

I don't think Lipstick on My Collar likes our climate much.

Masked Marauder was planted last spring. It's southern bred so I hope it likes our climate.

More to come . . .

So much eye candy! I'll pick Blockbuster among the names. Second choice is Articulate Matrix. The seedling has a fantastic eye, which it evidently inherits from Crimson Stories. Is it a dormant?

You have some nice ones. I think Randy Stephen and the seedling are my favorite.

    Those purple eyes are beautiful.

Another big toothy seedling, it's a great one! Serenade of Springtime is a winner, love the color and patterning. Articulate Matrix and Blockbuster are great, I'm loving the yellow and purple contrast.

The seedling is my top favorite today. I love the triangular eye and the white teeth. Congrats on that one! Others that caught my eye were Serenade of Springtime and Articulate Matrix.

Your blooms are lovely . It is so hard to pick a favourite ......it must be just wonderful walking through your gardens .....funny I am in same zone and so far only 2 daylilies are in bloom ...... go figure.

Mantis, the seedling is only a year old and we never track dormancy until they have been selected for further observation.

Signet, if you walked through our garden, you would find a lot of weeds. Also, we don't have the skills to arrange plants artistically. They are basically in rows. I guess you could say we are farmers, not landscapers. It is odd about the zones, but zones are based on winter low temperatures and don't really take into account the length of the growing season. Our last frost date is usually around April 20. Mantis also comments that he is behind us but we are the same zone.

Beautiful blooms! My favorites from the first group are Articulate Matrix, Blockbuster, and Marauder. I like Theodora Kennedy and Where's Waldo from the second group. Nice seedling too!

Nancy , that zone info is interesting . our last frost date is May 24 almost a month difference ......you must be in southern New York? I am about an hour from the most southerly point in Ontario . According to Canada Plant Hardiness zone by Municipality we are listed as a zone 6 b.

Oh and as for weeds, weeds are a fact of life in my gardens with 45 gardens , I cant afford mulch . And so I weed. Right now I am trying to edge the gardens as the grass along the edges is about 2 feet tall (our season has been the perfect storm to create this ) ......I just cant seem to ever stop trying to keep up with the weeds. I told a friend of mine," I should just rip up the daylilies and embrace the weeds"......she said "yeah , but you would still have to dig up the daylilies ... a lot of work." My reply was " yes , but I would only have to do it once! "

Nancy: I am south of Columbus and you are way ahead of me on bloom. ???

Indeed Blockbuster does have a nice eye. But you have a lot of eyed daylilies and they always look good in your pictures. I like W. Frills and Thrills too despite the faded eye zone. The form looks wonderful. Ashwood Rings of Saturn is a pretty pastel with a triangular shape. It rounds out my top three of this group........Maryl

    Lots of beauties!

So many beauties! I like your Westbourne, most of the Westbournes seem to do well for me, I may need to add more of those. Blockbuster looks really good, I really like the eye on it. Spacecoast Sea shells looks good too, mine has never done really well. This year it had 1 scape with 2 buds on it. I've always love August Wedding here, it multiplies well, lots of buds & always reblooms. I do love a hardworking daylily.
