Gesneriad Society Seed

last modified: 9 years ago

Seeds from the Gesneriad Society sprouting. This is the mixed species and hybrid seed that comes free in the new member packets. Seeds were sown on 5-7-17 and are shown here about the size of pinheads or smaller, in a 3 oz solo cup with fine perlite and soil mix that is bagged. It'll be fun figuring out what they are once they are larger!

One month later and ready to transplant! Still in a 3 oz solo cup, this is a close up shot today. The four 'heart' shaped leaves with fine hairs sticking out are mini sinningia, I think. When I plucked them out they each had a very tiny tuber attached to it. So I gently transferred those four to their own cup to grow on for a little while longer. They'll each get their own cups as they get larger still.

The larger seedlings showing four leaves may be kohleria, but early to tell yet. I plucked out the largest two, at right and bottom and transferred them to their own cup to grow on larger as well. For now everything else is staying in the original cup, spread out slightly, until they are bigger. I'll keep plucking out the largest seedlings and potting them up separately.
