Based on timing and the leaves, I think it is a Hydrangea paniculata cultivar, which sets buds in the spring, so not old wood. When the flowers open, add a photo of the flowers and of the overall shrub along with a size estimate and you may get an ID that is more specific.

Buds should be out in the next week or so, and I'll repost. Here's the pic of the overall size--spreads about 6+ feet wide and over 4' tall!

You'll have to repost pics once it fully blooms. As of now the stem/leaf profile resembles many, but yes, it's a paniculata.
