Information that I find says this melon likes hot weather. It's hot!

1. Can I try with fresh seeds from a melon or would these be sterile?

2. Must seeds be dried or can they be planted directly from a fresh melon?

3. I doubt melons like to be saturated all the time- as any plant although they need a decent amount of water... we just went from a 3 month severe drought to immediate heavy rains- had 6" in 1 hour the other day. June is historically the heaviest rain month. I have a large yard, some full sun. Has anyone in central FL tried in mid summer? There will be temps in the 90's until October, then 80's.

I grew watermelon in Michigan from fresh waterm. Started about Julyish and got 3 Sept/Oct melons.
