White Flora

My White Flora is in full bloom, but this year many blooms have tears. I don't know why. I need help if anyone know the reason. Please help me.

Marie, such a beautiful white. As for the flower buds tearing/splitting, I too have seen this. It seems to be something the doubles/triples suffer sometimes. I too would like to know what the actual cause is.....

We had this on one of our triples this year. We had repotted it at the beginning of Spring into a larger size pot with fresh soil....the same soil mix we use on all our DR's. Many flowers split like yours and continued to do so for a couple of months.

From our observation, we think that the plant was using all its energy reserves into growing new roots into the bigger size pot and did not have the energy left to give to flower formation. We noticed that once the roots had filled the pot, the flowers returned to normal. Maybe the plant could have done with extra fertiliser during this time, even though it should have had enough nutrients from the fresh soil. Or maybe if the plant decides to send all its energy into growing and thickening the underground roots, fertiliser may not have made much difference. Could not say for sure. Btw - this was a 3yr old seed grown plant.

Would be interesting to see what others have observed with their plants with the same problem. :)

I forgot to mention, we also noted that the plant had increased its caudex size (above ground) considerably more then our others in the couple of months that the flowers were affected. It did seem to indicate that the plant had decided that it wanted to spend this growing season on caudex/roots growth and not on flowering.

Sometimes they do what they want to do.... I guess this plant didn't read my rules for the garden... Giggle.

We should have a Houston get together in the near future.

I'll drive down from DFW.

I plan to be in Houston 6/30, if its not raining.

Of all my adeniums, this one has the biggest root mass. My best guess is that it probably needs a bigger pot, Marie.

Pagan, someone recommended B1, so I will try that and see if I get better blooms next year. The last 2 pictures are the true bloom looks like.

As usual, what a gorgeous bloom and number of flowers is outstanding. As for the splitting. I have had this many times and always the particular plant has both complete blooms and the odd split petals. I believe that it is environmental more than fertilizer. This does not help I realize, but if it where all blooms and not just a few. Then I might be thinking fertilizer or lack of micronutrients.
