Let me start by saying I am a peony novice.

I have purchased a peony tree - Paeonia Suffruticosa "Shimanishiki". The location where I am thinking of planting it is an area covered in vinca groundcover. I was hoping to cut back and kill the vinca in a relatively reasonable space so that I can place the peony.

I know I will always be fighting the vinca, but would vinca covering the roots of the peony hurt it? I was thinking that since it was a tree and would not be cut down to the ground that it might be able to handle having its roots covered by the vinca.

Is this logical or should I find another location?
