this is one case shutters could be ok, but I like it more without. also, yes, darker trim and garage door. white wouldn't look that great, gray as acm rendered would look good as trim, and I'd pick a lighter gray, just darker than the house, for the garage

Do you want your garage door to stand out and detract from the front door? If so, paint it white or some contrasting color. However, most of us would rather have the garage blend in so the emphasis is on your entry and not your garage. I agree with the others, a nice beefy trim with contrasting color around your windows instead of shutters and great landscaping like the rendering posted by downbytheriver will brighten up your home. I would keep the garage door the same color as your house and make your front door a standout color.

Beefy trim and a beefy post holding up the porch roof there. Neutralize the trim and garage so your entry will stand out. Take down the leaning fence and mailbox and work on the landscaping. Are you in LA - judging by the mossy live oak - you should be able to add some nice tropicals to the front for a more finished look, even without the shutters.

I vote for wide trim and no shutters. The window between the front door and garage is too large for them. They would need to be wider on the other two windows. Each shutter = half the window's width.
