It's basically up to you. If you live in a cool wet climate you're always going to get ferns spreading around. If you're willing to put in the effort then you can confine them to where you want them and pull out the rest. Even if you pull them all out there's probably still going to be some more come up eventually so you'll be back to pulling them out again. Go with what you feel and not what someone else feels about it.

I love most native ferns except bracken. Can you pot up extras to give away?

The "bad" fern looks like a Dryopteris of some sort...I wouldn't call them bad at all, I enjoy them. Not 100% on that id..

The only "bad" fern in this area is bracken fern, Pteridium aquilinum. Lady fern, Athyrium filix-femina, is a perfectly fine, native garden addition....not weedy and not an aggressive spreader. Maybe she was mixing this up with the bracken fern.
