Depth of containers?

My eyes were bigger than my container when i went to chuck plemmons Saturday. As a result i need something else to plant my "mouse" hostas and mini skirt. Is there a rule of thumb as to the depth of the container as to avoid the roots rotting and such?

The depth and girth should be just big enough to accommodate the mini. Most of the ones I purchased came in deep but small pots...maybe 4"? The rule, to my knowledge, is no different than for normal sized hostas and that is a pot just big enough to accommodate it.

of course.. you can do pot in pot.. to group many small ones together.. in a larger pot ..
