I buried my seedlings deep and they did fine. Also, I buried a broken stem and it took root, so I think they root along the stem. Just remove the lower leaves before you plant them. Maybe remove the flowers so they can focus on new roots.

fredsco, marigolds are soooo easy and fun to sow in situ. Depending on where you are located, you may be able to grow a crop yet this season.

At the very least, buy some seeds early next year and sow them in place after all danger of frost is past. I hate to see you settle for substandard, low quality marigolds. ;-(

Thanks, exactly what i needed to hear. I wasn't sure about stem rot with Marigolds. I usually seed alot of Marigolds every year and never had this issue. This year i'm doing to much veggie's and thought i'd buy just buy some. Season is short in northern canada. Thanks, have a great summer.

I've chopped off the tops of my marigold plants and had them fill in bushier & produce new blooms.
